  • $35,067 Economic Impact*
For the seventh annual MLK Day of Service, 657 college and high school students from seven campuses committed to serving in Gresham and east Multnomah County surrounding Mt. Hood Community College. Beginning with a morning rally at Mt. Hood, several students shared spoken word pieces and speeches about about the work of Martin Luther King Jr. and empowered their peers to continue their service throughout the year and relate it back to MLK's mission of racial justice.

Students served at fifteen sites to support community identified projects including neighborhood clean ups, food distribution, community gardens, and other community beautification projects. The service projects and reflection activities prompted college student volunteers to reflect on the teachings of Dr. King, the value of education and community, and how they as students can help strengthen the relationship between schools and community. These themes were discussed amongst students at the closing rally celebration.

*Economic Impact is based on independent sector's calculation of volunteer time.
