Member Development and Training Plan

Up to 20% of an CAC member's service hours can be spent on striving to achieve service-related training goals that would benefit them during their term of service at their current service site. The College Access Corps (CAC) program encourages members to strive for goals that would help a member develop their ability to better serve their community and/or current service site.

Member Development/Training Plan Form

Member development examples:
  • All trainings provided by Campus Compact and/or CNCS can count towards Member Development/Training hours for a member.
  • Any trainings, reflections, an elective class, symposiums, workshops, In-service, presentations, etc. that will help a member better serve their community.
  • Learning a new language in order to better serve at service site.
  • Developing networking skills and expanding partnerships by working with area non-profits and/or government agencies.
  • Taking a class in website design so as to help service site with their web site.
  • Development, implementation, and/or involvement in peer training.
  • Reflecting on a member's service and providing a great story.
  • Signing up for Toastmasters to improve their public speaking skills.
  • Taking an intercultural communication class so as to work more effectively with students at service site.
  • Time spent in workshops at a professional conference.
  • Any kind of computer class such as excel, access, dreamweaver, etc. that would benefit a member's work at their service site.
NOTE: A CAC member must work closely with their site supervisor in developing their member development plan because their site supervisor will need to sign off on all member development hours. While a maximum of 20% of a CAC member's total service hours can be used for member development, at most CAC sites members are unlikely to be approved for that maximum amount. This is because member development hours must in no way have a detrimental effect on the primary goal of a CAC member: to implement a quality CAC program. The time commitment needed to coordinate such a quality program often necessitates using additional hours in direct service, rather than member development. Further, all member development goals must relate to and benefit a member's current service project and/or service site. They must also be approved by a member's site supervisor.
