Christine Hoàng, Communications & Marketing Manager
On the Coalition for Racial and Educational Justice team, Christine (they/them) takes the lead of managing our online presence for each of our various programs. They began their role as the Communications and Marketing Manager shortly after ending their second year of service with AmeriCorps in 2022. In this role, they are also leading our rebranding, redesigning our website, and supporting with recruitment and hiring efforts.
Much of Christine's formal education consists of courses in racial justice, psychology, student development, and gender and sexuality studies. They received their B.S. in Psychology and M.Ed. in College Student Services Administration from Oregon State University. During their undergrad and graduate experience, they spent a lot of their time working at the Pride Center. There and in the Diversity and Cultural Engagement community at large, they connected with many student organizers through the Cultural Resource Centers on campus. |
One of the highlights from Christine's education experience is visiting their family's home country of Vietnam as part of their graduate portfolio. They used the photos they took in Vietnam to express some of the core values that they believe are vital to practicing student affairs in higher education. This opportunity made space for them to dig deeper into Vietnamese culture and history to learn about the effects of U.S. imperialism and Viet communist influence. Some other topics that interest them are anything pertaining to queerness in southeast Asia, arts-based activism or using art as a social practice, and disability justice with a focus on community care, neurodivergence, and autism.
Outside of Christine's professional role and formal education, they and their partner care for two hamsters Chidi and Dani, who live in separate cages as they are solitary and territorial animals. Both their partner and their hamsters remind them to let themself feel joy. They help Christine remember to live in the moment, slow down as needed, and rest. Christine strongly believes that joy, love, care, and rest can guide us in deconstructing capitalism and ableism within our lives. Work will always be there for us to return to. Outside of making a living, they love playing games, drawing people/characters, collaborating with their partner for their hamster photoshoots, cooking delicious homemade meals, trying out different restaurants, making steady home improvements, and watching shows and movies.
