AmeriCorps Programs

All Campus Compact of Oregon national service programs are committed to promoting racial equity and social justice, and eliminating inequities that exist in Oregon in postsecondary access and success for students of color and first generation students. AmeriCorps members are placed at colleges, universities, K12 schools, or education nonprofits and work with a supervisor at this host site. Each of our programs achieve this mission in a slightly different way. Read about the different programs below, and then follow the links to see which positions are currently open and how to apply.

AmeriCorps VISTA

VISTA members are committed to developing equitable community-engaged programming that increases educational access and success for students from low-income backgrounds and communities of color. Using an equity lens, VISTAs build capacity for college campuses and organizations to increase access for educational resources, to alleviate poverty based on community identified issue areas, and empower students to be change agents in their communities. VISTA Members develop programs, build relationships and partnerships with community organizations, lead community-wide service days, and provide leadership development, support and training for volunteers.
Summer VISTA
Summer VISTA with Campus Compact is a partnership with Ninth Grade Counts, members serve full time for eight weeks from June-August, with either a community organization or school district to prepare students for a successful transition into the next grade level and prevent summer learning loss. Summer VISTAs may develop lesson plans and activities for students, serve directly with rising 9th graders as tutors or assistant teachers, help with outreach to parents or guardians of students, recruit and train community volunteers, and more.
Connect2Complete
Connect2Complete is an AmeriCorps State & National Program with two main focuses: Community College Retention and K-12 Attendance. Connect2Complete Community College is focused on improving graduation rates for Oregon community college students through peer advocacy and community engaged learning. Connect2Complete Community College empowers students in developmental education classes to complete their required coursework more quickly, reach their educational goals, and ultimately graduate with a certificate or degree. Connect2Complete K12 is focused on improving attendance rates and school engagement in K12 schools in Multnomah County through mentorship. Connect2Complete K12 members work closely with school staff to create and implement interventions to address chronic absenteeism.

College Access Corps
Established in 2014, in partnership with Washington Campus Compact, College Access Corps is an AmeriCorps State & National Program that supports local economically disadvantaged youth to become engaged in their education, learn more about the college application and financial aid process and become academically prepared for higher education. AmeriCorps members are placed at selected member campuses, non-profits, or K12 institutions, where they will help develop, implement or coordinate college access programs within their local communities. AmeriCorps members will recruit and train college students from local campuses to act as college access coaches to economically disadvantaged youth, with a specific focus on first generation students and students of color. College Access Corps will close in 2021. During the 2020-21 school year, College Access Corps will operate on a limited capacity in partnership with the GEAR UP Program at Portland Public Schools.
