Alternative break trips

Alternative break trips are short-term immersion trips—they can happen during winter, spring, or summer break, or even on the weekends. Students may travel as far away as another country or as close as another part of town. Alternative break trips are a unique opportunity for students to get off campus and participate in service opportunities.

A lot of thought and planning must occur for a successful trip. Oregon Campus Compact hopes to engage campuses in a dialogue about how to best plan these trips for a meaningful student experience.

Our volunteers better understand the language of poverty, [and] the barriers preventing people from obtaining affordable housing. Being able to serve with families provided so much insight into the lives of those who are experiencing poverty, how hard they work to escape that poverty, and the toll and worry that poverty can have on these families."
