Hello! My name is Alex (Alexander) Díaz Rios (pronouns: He/His/Him/Él). I am a passionate advocate for education as a first-generation college graduate. I was raised by a single mother, along with six sisters and one brother. From humble beginnings as migrant farmers, my family has a legacy in Washington County, in the 1970's we were one of the original twelve Latinx families to settle in the area.Prior to teaching, I was part of a group of dedicated young Latinx leaders that formed the Willamette Chicano Alliance, a non-profit that serves Chicanx youth with college/career readiness, leadership, and mentoring programs. I also was a graduation coach in the Hillsboro School District. Recently, I was elected to represent Western Washington County on the Portland Community College Board of Directors.
Most recently, for the last years three years, I have taught English and Social Sciences in Portland Public Schools. With a quest for educational abolishment, I established Scholarly Homies Consulting, LLC.
In 2020, I started I am pursuing a Master of Science in Curriculum and Instruction with a concentration in Ethnic Studies and Restorative Justice. I hold a Bachelor of Science in Social Science from Portland State University and a Master of Arts in Teaching from Pacific University.
In my free time, I like to be in out in the Pacific Northwest's bounty nature, read about history and the human condition, and hanging out with loved ones.
